The Beginning

To start at the beginning we must go back to four years prior to the SACHENDA affix being taken out. As many people already know mum’s sister is Beverly Hollamby of the well-known JAYVERLY affix. Mum & Beverly were brought up with dogs – German shepherds, miniature dachshunds and when they were girls there were two litters of boxers bred by my grandparents.

In 1973 at the age of fourteen after watching “Lassie” films Beverly decided that the dog she wanted as a pet was a rough collie. Mum & dad were married by this time with two young children. I would have been five years old and my brother was three. So, on New Years Day 1974 off we all trekked to the Rickwood kennels to see a litter of puppies. Jean Lawson then showed us a four-month-old bitch puppy with whom Beverly fell in love. “Rickwood Pippin” as she was known was sired by Leecroft Lover Boy of Dunsinane and was show quality we were told. Beverly agreed to have a go at showing her.

Open shows were attended with “Lady” and placings were collected along the way, but she was not a happy showgirl and would rather have stayed at home. But the showing bug had bitten both Beverly & mum and so it was decided that as "Lady" was a nice bitch she would be mated to Rickwood Young Winston. The litter arrived and a bitch puppy “Jayverly Sweet ‘n’ Innocent” came home to live with us, and so our story begins!

Sam.
